Skate the Park, a popular winter attraction in Saskatchewan, has recently opened its doors once again. Located at Echo Valley Provincial Park near Fort Qu’Appelle, this ice skating track winds its way through the Aspen campground, spanning almost a whole kilometer. Visitors can enjoy amenities such as a teepee warming hut with a cozy campfire, perfect for gearing up or taking a leisurely break.
Kris and Robyn Jensen, who reside in Indian Head, just a short drive away from the park, shared that their initial motivation to visit and skate at Skate the Park stemmed from the pandemic. Their daughter, a figure skater, was craving more ice time when most facilities were closed. Since then, the Jensens have made it a family tradition to visit each season, expressing their love for the experience.
Aside from skating, Echo Valley offers a range of activities for all ages and fitness levels, including snowshoeing, trail walking, and cross-country skiing, all set in a picturesque environment. The park also features a croki-curl area and a ‘ninja warrior’ climbing course designed for children.
Danielle Murphy, who traveled from Moose Jaw with her family and pets, praised the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air while indulging in their passion for skating. Originally from the East Coast, Murphy appreciates the unique attractions Saskatchewan has to offer and enjoys exploring them despite the cold weather.
Sophie, a visitor from New Zealand currently residing in Calgary with her partner Noah, marveled at the beauty of the park, particularly the enchanting fairy lights. While Noah displays impressive skating skills, Sophie is still learning and humorously describes her skating journey as a survival mission amidst his graceful spins and backward glides.
Echo Valley Provincial Park continues to draw visitors seeking outdoor winter fun, providing a diverse range of activities for all to enjoy.
