“Flin Flon Museum Lights Honor Volunteers”

The annual light display at the Flin Flon Station Museum, a long-standing tradition in the city, has taken on special significance this year as it is dedicated to the memory of two dedicated volunteers who passed away in 2025. Despite being smaller in scale than previous years, the museum is adorned with a festive array of lights illuminating the building, front arch, Santa Claus, snowman statues, train cars, and exhibits. Even the iconic Flinty statue is aglow in red for the holiday season.

Joe Buie, the museum board chair, is overseeing the setup of the display. This year’s installation holds a deeper meaning, not just in celebrating the season but also in honoring the contributions of Ron Dodds and Glen Eggert, who played pivotal roles in making the annual display a cherished part of Flin Flon’s cultural heritage.

Dodds, a board member for four decades, was known as the main organizer of the display, always rallying volunteers and coordinating the necessary equipment. Buie fondly recalls Dodds’ infectious spirit, his commitment to fun, and his ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him. Despite stepping down from the board in 2021, Dodds continued to assist with setting up the lights each winter, demonstrating his unwavering dedication.

Tragically, Dodds passed away on Dec. 2 before witnessing this year’s display, adding to the sorrow of losing another dedicated volunteer, Glen Eggert, in October. Buie and the remaining board members are determined to carry on the tradition as a tribute to Dodds and Eggert, emphasizing their significant contributions to the museum and the light display.

The light show, which serves as a beacon for visitors entering town, is a source of joy for many, inspiring Buie and others to continue the tradition. Buie hopes to recruit more volunteers in the future to ensure the legacy of Dodds, Eggert, and other dedicated individuals endures. The display not only celebrates the spirit of Flin Flon but also serves as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of those who have passed on.

As the holiday season approaches, Buie remains committed to preserving the tradition and fostering new ideas with the help of enthusiastic board members. The light display stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of volunteers like Dodds and Eggert, ensuring that their legacy lives on in the heart of Flin Flon.

Watching the Flin Flon Christmas light show is a heartfelt tribute to the museum volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to this beloved tradition.
