Floyd Mayweather needed just one-word when discussing a potential fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Paul, 28, has taken the world of boxing by storm since making his professional debut back in 2020. The American has already racked up impressive wins over Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. With a professional record of 11-1, his only defeat inside the ring came against Tommy Fury back in 2023.
‘The Problem Child’ got back to winning ways against Diaz before wins over Andre August, Ryan Bourland and Mike Perry. In his last outing in November, Paul went head-to-head with former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson. Despite being unable to knock the 58-year-old out, the social media star scored a convincing unanimous decision victory.
Many within combat sports have been quick to offer their verdict on the controversial heavyweight dust-up. Recently appearing on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, when asked to share his thoughts on the Paul vs Tyson fight, Myaweather said: “I don’t really know where to go with this subject because if I say something, I’m going to get backlash.
“Well, basically, when you’re watching boxing for free, you can have millions and millions and millions, hundreds of millions views, but when you’re watching Floyd Mayweather, you have to pay. I did pay-per-view numbers. Check the numbers.”
On the topic of Logan Paul, Mayweather threw a slight verbal jab at the American, saying: “Well, me and Logan, we done an exhibition and that’s why he moved to WWE because he wanted to hold me the whole night. He wanted to hold on, he wanted to wrestle I think WWE is good for Logan.” Fallon then hinted at a possible clash between Mayweather and Logan’s brother Jake, to which ‘Money’ replied: “Easy. Too easy. At 48, too easy.”
While the American boxing veteran is uninterested in a clash with ‘The Problem Child,’ ‘Money’ did go head-to-head with his older brother Logan as aforementioned. After announcing his retirement from the sport in 2017 following a win over UFC star Conor McGregor, Mayweather then tried his luck in the world of exhibition fighting.
Having knocked out Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018, the 48-year-old returned three years later and fought ‘The Maverick’ in a non-scored bout. He has since gone on to face the likes of Mikuru Asakura, KSI’s brother, Deji Olatunji, and Aaron Chalmers. His last exhibition outing came last August in a rematch with John Gotti III.
