Author Rachel Reid has announced a delay in the release of her upcoming hockey romance novel, “Unrivaled,” due to the challenges of managing her newfound fame and the progression of Parkinson’s disease symptoms. Originally slated for this fall, the book is now expected to be published in June 2027, as revealed in a recent Instagram video message.
“Unrivaled” will mark the seventh installment in Reid’s popular “Game Changer” series, focusing on the relationship between hockey rivals and secret lovers Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The series has gained immense popularity, with the first two books, “Heated Rivalry” and “The Long Game,” serving as the inspiration for the successful Crave original series featuring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie.
In her Instagram update, Reid expressed her dedication to delivering the best possible book, stating, “My recent life changes have limited my writing time, but ensuring that ‘Unrivaled’ meets my standards is my top priority.” She acknowledged the bittersweet nature of success, mentioning the challenges posed by her worsening Parkinson’s symptoms, which have slowed her writing pace.
Reid disclosed that she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2023, coinciding with director Jacob Tierney’s interest in adapting her work. Tierney’s adaptation has garnered significant acclaim, leading to a second season renewal on Crave and HBO Max, where it achieved top ratings during its initial run.
Fans can anticipate further updates on the release of “Unrivaled” as Reid continues to navigate the demands of her evolving circumstances.
