Residents of Amherstburg experienced an earthquake on New Year’s Day. Earthquakes Canada confirmed that a minor earthquake occurred in Amherstburg at 11:19 a.m. on Thursday. According to the division of Natural Resources Canada, the earthquake measured 2.0 MwN in magnitude, with its epicenter situated five kilometers beneath the town. Despite causing no damage, Earthquakes Canada received 150 reports of the earthquake. The previous earthquake in the region was recorded in 2023, registering a magnitude of 4.4 MwN.
