Netflix Canada has announced the upcoming adaptation of yet another popular romance novel by Carley Fortune. The streaming platform has commissioned a 10-episode series based on Fortune’s third book, “This Summer Will Be Different,” set on Prince Edward Island. The story follows Lucy, who, while vacationing on the island, encounters Felix, her best friend Bridget’s younger brother, sparking a romantic connection. Despite the complicated situation, Lucy finds it challenging to resist Felix’s charm during her subsequent visits to P.E.I. When Bridget faces a crisis before her wedding, Lucy accompanies her, struggling to protect her emotions as she navigates her feelings for Felix. The television production will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to capture the essence of the book’s settings. Carley Fortune expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen, drawing inspiration from her own experiences on the picturesque island. Besides “This Summer Will Be Different,” Fortune has authored several other novels, including “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Her upcoming book, “Our Perfect Storm,” is scheduled for publication on May 5. Additionally, her work “Meet Me at the Lake” was selected for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions in 2023, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. This particular novel was also a notable contender for Canada Reads, championed by Mirian Njoh in 2024.
