Former Sail Canada high-performance director, Mike Milner, has received a four-month suspension through the national Abuse-Free Sport Program. The sanction was announced on Jan. 8 on a public registry by the Office of the Sports Integrity Commissioner. Sail Canada confirmed that Milner departed the organization in September 2024 and is no longer associated with them. The Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner sanctioned Milner for Aiding and Abetting, Neglect, and Psychological Maltreatment following an independent investigation, as indicated on the Abuse-Free Sport Registry, without specifying a particular incident. Last year, Sailing Canada appointed a new high-performance director after Milner served in that role for six and a half years. The responsibility for managing the registry is transitioning from OSIC to Sport Integrity Canada, formerly known as the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. Sport Integrity Canada assumed control of handling complaints and reports of abuse or maltreatment in sport starting April 1, 2025, while OSIC continued managing ongoing processes. Under the Canadian Safe Sport Program, Sport Integrity Canada oversees the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) and maintains a registry of individuals subjected to sanctions or provisional sanctions under the UCCMS.
