Canada’s rising tennis star, Victoria Mboko, secures a place in the semifinals once again. The 19-year-old talent from Toronto clinched a hard-fought victory in the quarterfinals at the Adelaide International tournament against American player Madison Keys, with a scoreline of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Mboko, seeded eighth in the tournament, took an early lead by breaking Keys in the first set. However, she struggled to counter Keys’ powerful serves in the second set. The American, seeded second in the WTA 500 event, delivered a remarkable performance with eight aces, six of which came in the second set alone.
In the decisive third set, the Canadian dominated by winning 75% of her first-serve points and converting the only breakpoint she had. Mboko is now set to face Australia’s Kimberly Birrell in the upcoming semifinal match.
Having had a successful 2025 season on the WTA Tour, Mboko is gearing up for her debut at the Australian Open later this month. Her outstanding performances last season, including winning the National Bank Open in Montreal and climbing from No. 333 to No. 18 in the rankings, earned her the title of WTA Newcomer of the Year.
