Arnaud Gaudet Grabs Silver at World Cup Giant Slalom

Arnaud Gaudet, a snowboarder hailing from Montcalm, Quebec, secured a silver medal at the World Cup snowboard parallel giant slalom event held in Bansko, Bulgaria. The thrilling competition saw Austria’s Benjamin Karl clinch the gold, edging out Gaudet by a narrow margin of 0.68 seconds in the final. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Gian Casanova claimed the bronze medal in the small final.

The 25-year-old Gaudet put on an impressive performance throughout the day, defeating Tim Mastnak from Slovenia in the round of 16, Alexander Payer from Austria in the quarterfinals, and Yannik Argenend from Germany in the semifinals.

Following this achievement, Gaudet’s performance propelled him to 10th place in the overall World Cup standings, amassing a total of 193 points. Notably, Gaudet, who previously secured a bronze medal in parallel giant slalom at the 2023 world championships, represented Canada at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The upcoming men’s parallel giant slalom event at the Milan Cortina Games is scheduled for February 8 in Livigno, Italy.

In the women’s event, Aurelie Moisan from Baie d’Urfe, Quebec, emerged as the top Canadian with a commendable sixth-place finish. The competition’s podium saw Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister claiming the gold, Poland’s Aleksandra Krol-Walas securing silver, and Japan’s Tsubaki Miki taking home the bronze.
