Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently visited the set of the CBC comedy series “Son of a Critch” with his youngest son, who shares his father’s enthusiasm for the show. The 12-year-old Hadrien Trudeau will make a cameo as an extra in an upcoming episode of the show’s Season 5, where classmates of the main character discover their roles in a school play.
During the visit to the set in Newfoundland, creator Mark Critch extended an invitation to Trudeau and his son, leading to their involvement in the production. Trudeau expressed his appreciation on Instagram, praising the show as a quintessential representation of Canadian culture. The visit lasted two days, allowing the father-son duo to interact with the cast and crew.
Actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who plays a young Mark Critch on the show, shared that Hadrien engaged in discussions about acting choices, staging, and background tips during their time together. Additionally, during a press event promoting the new season, Malcolm McDowell, who portrays Pops, mentioned Hadrien impressing him with trivia related to his character’s teacup description.
Critch and Trudeau’s connection dates back to a book launch event in Ottawa last year, where the former prime minister revealed his family’s admiration for “Son of a Critch.” Trudeau, who has three children, including Xavier and Ella-Grace, has seen his son Xavier delve into a music career with the release of his debut R&B single in 2025. The track featured vocals from his younger sister.
The mutual respect and camaraderie between Critch and Trudeau have been evident in their previous collaborations on CBC’s political satire program “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” Despite the political challenges faced by Trudeau in 2024, leading to his subsequent resignation in 2025, his support for Canadian entertainment remains unwavering.
