“Two Fishermen Found Dead Near Kinngait After Missing on New Year’s Eve”

RCMP officials in Kinngait have confirmed the tragic discovery of the bodies of two fishermen who were reported missing on New Year’s Eve. The authorities were alerted on December 31 when a 70-year-old father and his 38-year-old son did not return home after heading out to inspect their fishing nets located 15 kilometers away from the community. Due to adverse weather conditions, the initial ground search was postponed. Subsequently, search teams located the fishermen’s snowmobile about 11 kilometers away from Kinngait, but the men were not found.

After further efforts, the bodies of the two individuals were located on January 2, approximately five kilometers from the community. The RCMP has chosen not to disclose the identities of the deceased or provide details regarding the circumstances of their deaths. As no foul play is suspected, the police have concluded their investigation, with the Nunavut Coroner’s Service now taking over the case for further examination.
