Grab your favorite summer drink and head to the waterfront because “Summer House” is making its way to Canada, leaving behind the Hamptons for the picturesque cottage country of Ontario.
Hayu, the reality streaming service under NBCUniversal, and Lark Productions, based in British Columbia, have announced the commencement of production for “Summer House Canada” in the beautiful Muskoka region. This marks the first international adaptation of the popular reality show.
“Muskoka provides an ideal Canadian backdrop to launch ‘Summer House Canada’ and continue the success of the franchise,” stated Hendrik McDermott, managing director of international DTC at NBCUniversal, in a press release.
Similar to its American counterpart, the Canadian edition will chronicle a group of friends who escape to a shared cottage on weekends, where relationships and drama unfold.
Erin Haskett, president and executive producer at Lark Productions, which is also known for producing “The Real Housewives of Toronto” and “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” emphasized that “Summer House” has gained global popularity for its genuine friendships, vibrant personalities, and memorable summer moments.
This Canadian rendition joins the roster of other reality TV adaptations in the country, such as “Canada Shore,” currently filming its second season in Kelowna, B.C., for Paramount+, and the anticipated return of “Big Brother Canada” on CTV and Crave.
The announcement follows the recent Emmy nomination of the U.S. version of “Summer House” for best unstructured reality program, after ten successful seasons. The aftermath of the latest season was marked by cast members revealing post-production that they had been in a secret relationship for months, causing turmoil among the group and resulting in a dramatic reunion episode that set viewership records.
The Canadian installment of “Summer House” will consist of 10 episodes and will be available exclusively on Hayu. Casting details will be disclosed in the upcoming months, with the series scheduled to debut in 2027.
