American ski racer Lindsey Vonn revealed that she has sustained a complex tibia fracture following a severe crash in the Olympic downhill event. Vonn shared the update on her Instagram account, explaining that while the incident resulted in significant physical pain, she has no regrets.
Prior to the crash, Vonn had ruptured the ACL in her left knee just nine days earlier. Despite this injury, she participated in the downhill training runs at the Milan Cortina Games. Vonn clarified that her previous ACL injury was unrelated to the recent crash.
Vonn’s father, Alan Kildow, expressed that he does not support her return to competitive skiing following the leg injury sustained during the downhill event. He stated that at 41 years old, Vonn’s skiing career has come to an end according to his wishes.
Kildow, along with Vonn’s family, including her siblings, have been by her side at the hospital in Treviso where she is receiving treatment. He emphasized Vonn’s resilience and strength in handling the challenging circumstances.
Despite her impressive career achievements, including 84 World Cup victories, Vonn will not be making a comeback to the Winter Olympics or any competitive skiing events, as confirmed by her father.
The crash, which occurred during the downhill race, was attributed more to Vonn’s aggressive racing approach than to her previous knee injury. Kildow highlighted the importance of adjusting speed and racing lines to prevent such incidents in the future.
Vonn, known for her success in downhill skiing, made a return to the sport after a prolonged hiatus and knee surgery. Her exceptional performances this season demonstrated her enduring talent and determination on the slopes.
