Canada’s figure skating duo, Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier, secured a fifth-place finish in the pairs event at the Four Continents Championships held in Beijing, China. Hailing from St-Jerome, Que., and St-Alphonse-de-Granby, Que., Laurin and Ethier achieved a personal best score of 122.59 in the free program, accumulating a total of 188.27 points.
Reflecting on their performance, Éthier expressed satisfaction with their score, attributing it to the hard work put in despite some minor errors. The pair’s achievement was highlighted in a video that captured their top-5 finish at the championships.
In the same competition, Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov from the United States claimed the top spot, surpassing the reigning Olympic champions from China, Wenjing Sui and Cong Han. Yuna Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi from Japan secured the third position.
Meanwhile, in the men’s short program, Roman Sadovsky, the 2026 national silver medallist from Vaughan, Ont., scored 79.96, placing him in ninth position. Sadovsky expressed contentment with his performance and the positive reception from the audience.
Additionally, Ava Kemp and Yohnatan Elizarov, both representing Canada, moved up to eighth place overall with a score of 159.20 in their Four Continents debut. The men’s short program saw a podium sweep by Japanese skaters, with Kao Miura leading the pack followed by Kazuki Tomono and Sota Yamamoto in second and third places, respectively.
The event will conclude with the men’s free skate on Sunday, with Wesley Chiu from Richmond, B.C., currently in 15th place, and Aleksa Rakic from Burnaby, B.C., in 16th place with 73.61 and 68.83 points, respectively.
