“Fatal Shooting Erupts at Rhode Island Youth Hockey Game”

Three individuals, including the alleged perpetrator, were fatally shot during a youth hockey game in Rhode Island on Monday, as confirmed by authorities. Pawtucket police Chief Tina Goncalves informed the media that three other victims are currently in critical condition at a hospital. The shooter succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Goncalves, who suggested that the incident may have stemmed from a targeted family dispute.

Although specific details about the suspect and the ages of the deceased were not disclosed, Goncalves indicated that the victims appeared to be adults. Investigations were ongoing, with authorities seeking to interview witnesses and reviewing video footage from the hockey game. Unverified social media clips depicted players taking cover and spectators fleeing upon hearing gunshots.

The tragic shooting took place at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, just outside Providence. Tearful families and high school hockey players, still in their uniforms, were seen embracing outside the arena before departing on a bus. Roads surrounding the area were closed off, with a significant police presence and helicopters hovering above.

This incident follows a gun violence tragedy that occurred nearly two months ago at Brown University in Rhode Island, where a gunman fatally shot two students and injured nine others before also killing a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor. The shooter, identified as Claudio Neves Valente, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot at a New Hampshire storage facility.

Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien expressed sorrow over the events, emphasizing that the two incidents were unrelated but deeply unfortunate. The city of Pawtucket, situated approximately eight kilometers north of Providence near the Massachusetts border, has a population of just under 80,000 residents and was previously home to Hasbro’s headquarters.
