A teenager from Saanich, British Columbia, is currently in critical condition at the hospital following a hit-and-run incident in Richmond, British Columbia, on Saturday night. Authorities suspect that the teen may have been involved in a physical altercation before being struck by the vehicle.
The 17-year-old, identified as Myles Mickey, had traveled from Vancouver Island to attend an all-ages dance party, a common activity for him and his friends. Police were alerted to the situation on No. 3 Road around 11:25 p.m. PT on Saturday where they found the unconscious and bleeding teenager.
Initial reports suggest that the victim was hit by a car after a confrontation on the roadside, with authorities also looking into a potential assault causing bodily harm linked to the altercation. The vehicle involved is believed to be a dark-colored Ford Fiesta manufactured between 2014 and 2019, with visible damage to its front end.
Mickey’s parents disclosed that their son likely had no prior acquaintance with those involved in the altercation. Despite the uncertain circumstances, they remain hopeful for his recovery.
Set to graduate high school in June, Mickey had plans to start a construction training program that would have equipped him with the necessary skills for employment. However, he is currently in a medically-induced coma due to severe injuries, including brain bleeds and multiple fractures.
His parents, Theandra Holtby and Jesse Laroque, described Mickey as an active basketball player facing a challenging road to recovery due to his energetic nature. They expressed optimism about his resilience and determination to overcome the ordeal.
Richmond RCMP are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam recordings of the incident to come forward. They emphasized the legal repercussions of leaving the scene after causing serious harm to someone with a vehicle.
