Canadian skier Marielle Thompson secures bronze, eyes Olympic success

Canada’s Marielle Thompson continues to gain momentum ahead of the Milano-Cortina Olympics. The 33-year-old ski cross athlete secured a bronze medal at a World Cup event in Val di Fassa, Italy, marking her second podium finish in consecutive competitions. Jole Galli of Italy claimed gold, while Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France earned the silver alongside Thompson.

Hailing from Whistler, B.C., Thompson also clinched a bronze medal in Veysonnaz, Switzerland last week, her first medal this season following a knee ligament injury towards the end of the previous season. Her recent success coincides with being named one of Canada’s flag bearers for the upcoming Olympic Games.

As the Winter Games draw near, Thompson will compete in one more World Cup event before the official start. Fans can catch the Val di Fassa competition streaming live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. ET. Additionally, Thompson engaged in an interview discussing her recovery journey, racing mindset, and insights from previous Games with Ariel Helwani.

This ongoing success positions Thompson as a strong contender for the upcoming Olympics, showcasing her determination and resilience in the competitive ski cross circuit.
