AFC Toronto has recently signed contract extensions with Esther Okoronkwo, a talented Nigerian forward, along with three other players. Okoronkwo, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) last year, will now continue with the Northern Super League team until 2027. Her outstanding performance in the final, where she scored a goal and provided two assists in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Morocco, earned her the player of the match title.
The 28-year-old Nigerian player, Okoronkwo, paired up with Canadian forward Kaylee Hunter, contributing to Toronto’s league-leading 42 goals. During the season, Okoronkwo recorded eight goals and 11 assists in 1,643 minutes of play, assisting Toronto in securing the top spot in the NSL’s regular-season standings with a 16-6-3 record. Despite reaching the championship game, Toronto suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Vancouver.
In addition to Okoronkwo, Canadian midfielder Zoe Burns, and forwards Kaila Novak and Lauren Rowe have also been granted contract extensions. Novak’s contract extends to 2026, while Burns and Rowe are signed through 2027. With these extensions, Toronto now boasts a roster of 20 players, showcasing a mix of international talents.
The AFC Toronto roster includes players from various regions, such as Finland, the U.S., Canada, and Nigeria, reflecting the team’s diverse and competitive composition across different positions on the field.
