Passenger’s Shock as Air Canada Worker Trapped in Cargo Hold
Gabrielle Caron, returning from a Mexican vacation, faced an unexpected incident on Air Canada Rouge Flight 1502 from Toronto to Moncton. While taxiing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, the flight crew’s frantic movements caught Caron’s attention. The plane stopped short of the runway, prompting Caron to witness crew members gathering outside the aircraft. The pilot then informed passengers of a crew member’s presence in the luggage hold.
The incident, occurring on a plane with a capacity of 184 passengers, transpired on December 13. Air Canada explained that a ground crew member became trapped inside the cargo hold due to the cargo doors closing inadvertently. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
After the worker was safely rescued, the flight returned to the terminal for passengers to disembark while the crew dealt with paperwork. Subsequently, the flight experienced additional delays as the pilot’s work hours expired, preventing the eastward trip.
Passenger Stephanie Cure, who also heard the trapped crew member’s calls for help, shared her experience. Initially unaware due to her headphones, Cure became alerted by others around her and captured the commotion on video. The video, later shared on social media, garnered significant attention.
Following the incident, compensation was provided to affected passengers. While Cure received $1,000 for the disruption, Caron received a $400 voucher from Air Canada. Aviation industry expert John Gradek highlighted the passengers’ entitlement to further compensation, suggesting potential legal action due to the disruption caused.
Gradek emphasized the importance of proper procedures to prevent such incidents and noted that thorough investigations would shed light on the circumstances leading to the mishap. Despite the ordeal, Caron expressed relief that everyone involved remained safe and advised travelers to approach unexpected events with patience and understanding.
