A police officer in southern Alberta and his wife are facing charges of fraud, as announced by the RCMP on Friday. Constable Grant Shade, who has been a member of the RCMP since 2021, is accused of committing fraud and theft over $5,000, alongside his wife, Katrina Shade.
The Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch conducted an investigation following reports of fraudulent activities involving Piikani Resource Development Ltd., an economic development corporation owned by the Piikani Nation. Katrina Shade was employed by Piikani Resource at the time of the alleged incidents.
In addition to the fraud and theft charges, Constable Shade is also facing charges related to the possession of property obtained through illegal means exceeding $5,000. He serves at the Piikani Nation RCMP detachment, situated 200 kilometers south of Calgary, and has been placed on suspension with pay.
The specific details of the alleged offenses have not been disclosed by the RCMP due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Grant and Katrina Shade reside in Pincher Creek, located west of Piikani Nation, and are scheduled to appear in court on February 18 in nearby Fort Macleod.
