Get prepared for another round of eliminations as the popular reality TV series “Big Brother Canada” is set to return for its third season on CTV and Crave. Production will kick off in Montreal next spring, with casting information to follow at a later time, according to Bell Media’s announcements in Toronto this week.
In addition to the Canadian version, the network will also broadcast the well-established American edition of “Big Brother” starting in the summer of 2027. The show, inspired by George Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” brings together contestants known as houseguests in a specially designed house where they are constantly monitored through audio and video, isolated from the outside world, and compete for cash prizes.
Participants face interpersonal conflicts and evolving relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs as they strive to avoid eviction from the house and elimination from the game. The Canadian revival will be hosted by lifestyle host and entertainment journalist Andrea Bain, known for her role on CTV’s “The Social” and previously on CBC’s “The Goods.”
The deal with Bell Media includes the show’s full library of 12 previous seasons for fans to binge-watch on Crave, along with the French-language version “Big Brother Célébrités.” The “Big Brother” franchise, originating in the Netherlands in the late 1990s, has seen successful adaptations in numerous countries worldwide, from Brazil to the U.K., India to Australia.
The Canadian version initially premiered on Slice in 2013 before transitioning to the main network Global in 2015. Hosted by broadcaster and entertainment journalist Arisa Cox, who also starred in the reality series “U8TV: The Lofters” in the early 2000s, the show faced hiatus after its fifth season but was reinstated for a sixth season due to fan demand.
Following its cancellation by Global in June 2024, a new wave of fan support led to the show’s revival once again. Justin Stockman, Bell Media’s vice-president of global content, expressed enthusiasm for bringing Canadian viewers more of the engaging and memorable competitive social gameplay they enjoy.
