“Canada’s Mboko and Auger-Aliassime Dominate in United Cup Tennis”

Victoria Mboko and Felix Auger-Aliassime have resumed their strong performance at the start of the 2026 tennis season. The duo led Canada to a 3-0 victory over China in the United Cup mixed teams event, with Auger-Aliassime defeating Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 6-4, and Mboko coming back from a set down to beat Lin Zhu 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. They also combined forces for a 6-1, 6-3 win in the mixed doubles match against Xiaodi You and Rigele Te.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked No. 5 in the men’s category, had a successful previous season, reaching the U.S. Open semifinals, winning an ATP 250 title at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open, and making it to the ATP Finals semifinals.

The 25-year-old Montreal native started his season with a victory for the first time since 2021, expressing satisfaction with his performance. He highlighted the importance of rhythm and handling pressure in tennis, emphasizing the unpredictability of the game.

On the other hand, 19-year-old Mboko made significant strides in the past season, climbing from outside the top 300 to break into the top 20. She secured victories at the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal and ended 2025 with a five-match winning streak, clinching the Hong Kong Open title.

Canada is set to face Belgium in their upcoming group match on Tuesday in the United Cup, with the tournament concluding on January 11.
