Canadian Para skier Alexis Guimond clinched the top spot in the men’s standing downhill event at a recent World Cup competition held in Saalbach, Austria. Hailing from Gatineau, Quebec, Guimond secured the gold medal with a time of 54.91 seconds, narrowly edging out France’s Arthur Bauchet who finished close behind at 54.95 seconds. Switzerland’s Robin Cuche took the third spot with a time of 55.27 seconds. This victory marked Guimond’s first World Cup gold in his 18 downhill races career.
In the women’s standing downhill category, Mollie Jepsen from West Vancouver, British Columbia, claimed the third position with a time of 59.05 seconds. Aurelie Richard of France clinched the gold medal with a time of 58.09 seconds, followed by Varvara Voronchikhina of Russia at 58.35 seconds. Jepsen has consistently performed well this season, securing a podium finish in all four World Cup downhill races and a total of six podium finishes out of nine races overall. Michaela Gosselin from Collingwood, Ontario, finished in fifth place in the competition.
