“Catherine O’Hara’s Vintage Comedy Sketch Resurfaces”

Almost four decades ago, during a 1978 interview on CBC with Paul Soles, the renowned Canadian entertainer Catherine O’Hara exhibited her early comedic talent in a favorite sketch: a spoof advertisement for a product called “Milk of Amnesia.”

“Well, the kids are finally asleep, and honestly, I’m exhausted,” she jests. “After a tough day, do you ever wish you could just kick back, unwind, and forget the day’s challenges? Well, I certainly do — with Philips Milk of Amnesia. I simply pour myself a glass of Philips Milk of Amnesia and watch the day’s worries drift away to who knows where.”

In recognition of O’Hara, who is in the running for the Best Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role award at the Canadian Screen Awards for her role as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” CBC Arts uncovered this vintage clip. Sit back, enjoy, and relive the moments when O’Hara first tickled our funny bones.
