Coyne Schofield’s OT Winner Lifts Minnesota Over New York

Kendall Coyne Schofield netted the game-winning goal in overtime, assisted by Taylor Heise, to secure a 3-2 victory for the Minnesota Frost over the New York Sirens in Newark, N.J., on Friday night.

Heise cleverly feinted a shot before passing across the goal, setting up Coyne Schofield for a decisive deflection. This goal elevated Coyne Schofield’s season points tally to 14, while Heise notched her 10th assist, with four of those assists coming in the last two matches.

This game marked the first of five scheduled regular-season matchups between Minnesota (5-2-2-3) and New York (6-0-1-5). In the previous season, the Sirens held a 3-2-1-0 record against Minnesota.

Britta Curl-Salemme opened the scoring for Minnesota with 11:05 remaining in the first period following a defensive error by the Sirens’ goalie, courtesy of an assist from Heise. Curl-Salemme’s goal was her fifth of the season, leading the league with 14 points. She has now recorded points in 10 out of 12 games this season.

Kelly Pannek swiftly put Minnesota ahead 2-1 just 35 seconds into the second period with her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Coyne Schofield. New York’s Casey O’Brien equalized the score at 1-1 with a goal 2:49 before the end of the first period.

In the second period, Taylor Girard scored her career-high fifth goal to level the game at 2-2 at the 4:04 mark.

In upcoming fixtures, Minnesota will face Montreal at home on Wednesday, while New York will play Montreal in a Takeover Tour game at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
