One individual was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following a crash between a bus and a car on the Sea-to-Sky Highway connecting Squamish and Whistler on Wednesday. B.C. Emergency Health Services shared that multiple ambulances, including advanced care paramedics and a paramedic supervisor, responded to the scene. The injured person was initially treated by paramedics and then transferred to another ambulance with critical care paramedics for transportation to the hospital.
The Sea to Sky RCMP stated that as of Wednesday afternoon, the specific injuries sustained in the accident were not yet known. While the cause of the collision is still under investigation, authorities are considering the snowy weather conditions as a potential contributing factor. Although the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services were contacted for the investigation, they did not end up attending.
The incident took place six kilometers north of Squamish near Conroy Forest Service Road, leading to the closure of both directions by 3:30 p.m. PT. The highway later reopened for single-lane alternating traffic around 6:30 p.m. PT, but drivers were cautioned about potential delays due to congestion.
Witness Megan Foster, a resident of Whistler, described seeing a severely damaged vehicle at the crash site, with individuals nearby and debris being cleared. She also observed significant damage to a passenger Skylynx bus nearby. Foster noted that the road conditions were slick with fresh snow, recounting how the vehicle’s engine had been forcefully separated from the car and was emitting smoke as snowfall continued.
