EastEnders star Spencer Moon’s very different job now 20 years after soap exit

Must read

EastEnders star, Chris Parker, has a got a new career, which is a whole world away from his days on the BBC soap playing the loveable Spencer Moon. Chris, now 41, played Alfie Moon’s younger brother for three years before deciding to leave Albert Square and quit acting for good.

While dabbling with showbiz in the US for two years when he left EastEnders in 2005, working for TMZ and hosting Dead Famous Live alongside Gail Porter in Los Angeles, Chris came back to London and graduated from from Birkbeck University with a law degree before becoming a solicitor. Since October 2022, the former actor has been a Senior Consultant at Ignition Law.

The company’s website says Chris trained at London media firm, Clintons, where he “advised on multiple litigation matters, including those involving high profile individuals”.

He also has “several years’ experience leading an in-house legal department with a particular focus on commercial and media law” as well as “valuable experience on secondment at a global film company”.

Soon after Alfie Moon, played by Shane Ritchie, rocked up in EastEnders in 2002, bosses decided to bring the Moon clan, including his geeky brother Spencer and their beloved Nana Moon, to join him.

Spencer idolised his big brother Alfie, but caused him a bit of bother when he rocked up unannounced with their nan, played by Hilda Braid.

The unlucky-in-love lad had a failed fling with Kelly Taylor before getting Vicki Fowler pregnant in a one-night stand and sleeping with Stacey Slater.

In one of the soap’s more bizarre storylines, Spencer was also trapped in the remains of a collapsed helter-skelter, before going off to live in Australia with Vicki and opened a bar in Sydney.

In real life, actor Chris was rushed to hospital in November 2004 and took an extended period of leave from filming. After three weeks a mutual decision was made that he would not return to the role and his last on-screen appearance was in early January 2005.

An EastEnders spokesperson stated: “We’d like to thank Chris for all his hard work over the last two years and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Chris’ co-star Scarlett Alice Johnson, also quit the soap. However Vicki Fowler 2.0 will set foot in Walford for the first time in over 20 years next week to attend her Uncle Martin’s funeral, bringing her new boyfriend Ross and his son Joel with her.

Since leaving the Square in 2004, Vicki, now played by Alice Haig, has been living Down Under with long-term love Spencer. So, when she arrives in Walford with a new man on her arm, it comes as quite the shock to sister Sharon and Spencer’s brother Alfie.

Vicki explains she has returned for Martin’s funeral before revealing that she and Spencer have separated. Having learnt of Vicki’s return from Zack, Alfie and Kat head to Sharon’s but they are shocked when Spencer is nowhere to be seen.
