“Fatal Shooting on GO Transit Bus Near Yorkdale Mall”

A fatal shooting incident occurred on a GO Transit bus near Yorkdale Shopping Mall on Sunday evening, leading to the death of a man as confirmed by authorities. The tragic incident took place at the GO terminal located near Yorkdale Road and William R. Allen Road ramp in North York at approximately 7 p.m., according to updates shared by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) on social media.

Following the shooting, all passengers and GO staff were promptly evacuated from the bus in a safe manner, Metrolinx media relations stated. Both police and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the scene to address the situation and provide necessary assistance.

As a result of the incident, Yorkdale GO services were temporarily halted, with alternative boarding options made available at the York Mills terminal, as communicated by Metrolinx. Detective-Sergeant Jason Davis from the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit reported the arrest of a suspect and the confiscation of a firearm during a press briefing.

The investigation has since been taken over by the TPS homicide unit to probe further into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. For passenger safety and security concerns, Metrolinx advised passengers to utilize designated safety measures, such as using the yellow strip or texting “HELP” to 77777 for immediate assistance, as stated in an official statement released on Monday. Additionally, Metrolinx assured the deployment of special constables and customer protection officers around the clock at trains, stations, and platforms to provide ongoing support and vigilance.
