The nominations for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today, showcasing HBO’s success with the series “The Pitt” leading the pack. The medical drama starring Noah Wyle received 25 nominations, closely followed by HBO’s “Hacks” with 24 nods. “Hacks” set a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy in its final season, surpassing the previous record held by “Schitt’s Creek.”
Apple TV also saw success with its shows. The dark comedy “Widow’s Bay” secured 19 nominations, while the post-apocalyptic series “Pluribus” received 16 nods. “Heated Rivalry,” which airs in Canada on Crave like “The Pitt” and “Hacks,” did not receive any Emmy nominations due to foreign production requirements, but co-lead Connor Storrie received a nomination for his role on “Saturday Night Live.”
The nominations were announced by previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14 and will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: SVU,” marking the first time a woman has hosted the show in 15 years.
In a new development, the Emmys will introduce a “legacy award” this year, honoring programs that have had a significant and lasting impact on audiences and society. This award, the first of its kind in nearly two decades, aims to recognize shows that remain relevant in the industry.
