Canadian hockey-themed drama series, “Heated Rivalry,” has clinched the esteemed Peabody Award. The production, a collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and distributed by HBO Max in the U.S., emerged as a surprise success upon its debut in November 2025. The show was recently recognized as one of 11 winning TV programs in the realm of entertainment.

According to the Peabody Awards jurors in a recent news release, “Heated Rivalry” was commended for its adept handling of intricate themes of sexuality and emotional bonds, championing healthy masculinity and leaving a significant cultural imprint on television this year. The series, helmed by Montreal’s Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax’s Rachel Reid, delves into the clandestine romance between fictional professional ice hockey players, Shane Hollander portrayed by Hudson Williams, and Ilya Rozanov played by Connor Storrie.

In response to the accolade, Tierney, in conjunction with the show’s official Instagram account, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “Every glance, every silence, every line crossed, this story was never simple. Honored to receive a Peabody Award for telling it the way it deserved to be told.” Reid also shared her pride, commenting, “So proud of everyone who made this,” accompanied by a happy crying emoji.

The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario took to Instagram to extend congratulations to the show’s team, emphasizing their immense pride in the members who contributed to the series. The recipients of the 86th Annual Peabody Awards are set to be feted at a ceremony in Los Angeles on May 31.
