Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select models of the Elantra Hybrid produced between 2024 and 2026, citing a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 vehicles in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai officials. Despite the issue, there have been no reported incidents of fires, injuries, or fatalities in Canada, according to Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth.
Similarly, in the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recalled 54,337 vehicles for the same safety concern. The problem is attributed to a potential malfunction in the hybrid power control unit, which may lead to overheating, as per Hyundai.
The NHTSA warns that this issue could result in a “no start” situation or limited power mode in most instances, potentially escalating to overheating and the heightened risk of a fire. Hyundai has assured that it will contact all impacted vehicle owners and provide a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating issue.
