After over 40 years, the iconic show “Little House on the Prairie” is making a comeback to television screens. Set to premiere on Netflix on July 9, this new adaptation aims to closely align with the original book series by American pioneer Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on “The Housemaid” and “The Boys,” expressed her deep connection to Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels, which chronicle the Ingalls family’s early life on the Osage Nation Reservation from 1869 to 1871. Notably, the filming of this series took place in Manitoba, despite the story being set in southeastern Kansas.
The picturesque landscapes of Manitoba provided the perfect backdrop for the show, offering a genuine portrayal of the untamed prairie environment the creators envisioned. Among the standout cast members is Meegwun Fairbrother, portraying William Mitchell, a mixed-blood Osage farmer, and Alyssa Wapanatâhk as his wife, White Sun.
