Kiefer Sutherland Arrested for Ride-Hailing Altercation

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following a reported altercation with a ride-hailing driver, as confirmed by authorities. The incident unfolded shortly after midnight at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills. The Los Angeles Police Department disclosed that the 59-year-old Emmy-winning Canadian actor engaged in a physical confrontation with the driver upon entering the ride-hailing vehicle, along with making criminal threats towards the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries necessitating medical attention, the police stated.

Law enforcement officials apprehended Sutherland on suspicion of making criminal threats and subsequently released him from detention a few hours later upon posting a $50,000 US bond, as indicated in jail records. His initial court appearance is slated for February 2, according to the same records. No immediate response was received to an email sent to Sutherland’s representatives seeking comment.

Renowned for his iconic portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer in the TV series “24” and its various offshoots, Sutherland has also made his mark in films such as “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns,” as well as feature films like “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men,” directed by Rob Reiner. He hails from a lineage of Canadian entertainers, being the offspring of actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the descendant of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, celebrated for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
