Alannah Keyser, a 21-year-old contestant, has been ousted from the current season of Love Island USA after a video resurfaced online showing her using a racial slur. Keyser, a college student from Miami, joined the show during the Casa Amor episodes but was swiftly removed following the emergence of the controversial video.
The clip, initially shared on Snapchat, depicted Keyser singing along to a song that included the N-word, believed to be Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box.” The show’s narrator, Iain Stirling, confirmed her departure by simply stating, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.”
Following her introduction on Season 8, where she seemed to connect with contestant Zach Georgiou, viewers noticed a decline in Keyser’s screen time, with some Reddit users pointing out her minimal presence in recent episodes.
Keyser’s situation mirrors previous incidents within the franchise. Prior to the season’s premiere, Vasana Montgomery was removed from the cast after old footage of her using a racial slur resurfaced.
This is not the first time Love Island USA has faced such controversies. In a similar manner, Season 7 saw participants being removed for similar reasons. Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega were both ousted from the show after separate incidents involving the use of racial slurs, prompting public apologies from both contestants.
Keyser was contacted for a statement by CBC News but had not responded at the time of publication.
