Former U.S. president Barack Obama addressed his previous comments about the existence of aliens on a podcast during an Instagram post on Sunday. Obama clarified that while he acknowledges the possibility of alien life due to the vastness of the universe, he did not encounter any evidence of extraterrestrial contact during his presidency.
The discussion arose after a video circulated showing Obama responding to a quick round of questions on a podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen. When asked about the reality of aliens, Obama stated that while aliens are real statistically, he had not personally witnessed their presence or any secretive facilities like Area 51 housing them.
Concerning conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51, a classified site in Nevada known for its association with UFO lore, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) confirmed its existence in 2013 but discredited claims of UFO incidents and alien encounters. The site’s secrecy has fueled speculation and prompted events like the “Storm Area 51” gathering in 2019.
In a documentary titled “The Age of Disclosure,” released in 2025, allegations of a long-standing cover-up of extraterrestrial intelligence were made, including reports of unidentified objects spotted near nuclear facilities. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned instances where presidents operated with limited information to maintain plausible deniability.
Rubio later clarified his statements in an interview with Fox News, explaining that his earlier comments were based on hearsay rather than personal experiences. Despite acknowledging selective editing in the documentary, Rubio stood by his remarks regarding unidentified objects and presidential knowledge.
Additionally, Obama commented on a controversial video shared by U.S. President Donald Trump on Truth Social, depicting Obama and Michelle Obama in a derogatory manner. Obama criticized the lack of decorum and respect in current social media and television environments, highlighting a shift from past standards of propriety.
While Trump did not issue an apology for the post, it was eventually removed following public backlash. The incident exemplifies the evolving landscape of social media discourse and the erosion of traditional norms in public discourse.
