The Ottawa Charge and the Vancouver Goldeneyes of the PWHL made a significant trade involving six players on Sunday night, setting a league record for the most players involved in a trade at this point in the season. The trade took place just before the PWHL goes on a month-long Olympic break.
Among the players involved in the trade, Michela Cava, who was tied for third in scoring for Vancouver with five points, including one goal and four assists in 13 games, is a key addition to the Charge. Ottawa also acquired forward Brooke McQuigge and defender Emma Greco.
In return, Vancouver added three forwards to their roster, including rookie second-round pick Anna Shokhina, a three-time Olympian from Russia. Shokhina, 28, has had a slow start in the PWHL, registering a goal and three assists in 12 games. The Goldeneyes also welcomed two-way forward Mannon McMahon and Anna Meixner, a player from Austria’s national team.
All three players joining Ottawa have experience winning the Walter Cup with the Minnesota Frost. Cava is a two-time champion, McQuigge was a rookie on last year’s championship team, and Greco won the cup in 2024 before playing for Boston last season.
The Charge, currently tied for fifth in the standings with Toronto, have shown strong performances lately, winning six straight games, including four in overtime or shootouts, before suffering a 2-1 loss to Montreal. Vancouver, on the other hand, is struggling in seventh place, averaging a league-low of 1.7 goals per game and ranking seventh in goals against. The Goldeneyes have lost three consecutive games and have a record of 1-4-2 in their last seven matches.
“We believe these new players will bring impact both defensively and offensively,” said Vancouver GM Cara Gardner Morey. “Our goal is to compete with speed and determination, and these players embody those qualities.”
