The news was relayed to McGowan by another The Sopranos cast member, Vincent Curatola, after Pastore was discovered unresponsive at his residence on New York’s City Island following a period of unavailability.
McGowan expressed his deep sorrow over Pastore’s passing, highlighting his client’s generosity, charitable endeavors, and willingness to assist others, traits not often seen in the entertainment industry. Michael Imperioli, a close friend and frequent collaborator of Pastore, shared heartfelt memories of their enduring friendship on social media, reminiscing about their shared experiences working together across various projects in the USA, Italy, and Australia.
Throughout his extensive career, which spanned several decades, Pastore made notable appearances in acclaimed films such as Goodfellas and Awakenings in 1990, consistently embodying the role of gangsters on screen. However, it was his recurring role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in The Sopranos that solidified his place in television history with a 30-episode portrayal of the character, who ultimately becomes an informant for the FBI.
Born in the Bronx to a family of Italian American heritage, Pastore grew up in New Rochelle, New York, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before pursuing higher education at Pace University. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
