A teenager from Prince George, British Columbia, aged 17, is facing a manslaughter charge following the death of a 16-year-old girl due to a fatal overdose in 2024. Authorities responded to a residence in the College Heights area of the city around 10 p.m. PT on June 26, 2024, where the girl was discovered unresponsive. Emergency services rushed her to the hospital, where tests revealed high levels of fentanyl in her system. Tragically, she passed away at the hospital.
The B.C. Prosecution Service gave the green light for a manslaughter charge against the 17-year-old, who was taken into custody on the same day and later released under certain conditions. As per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, minors between 12 and 17 facing criminal allegations are not publicly identified unless they are tried as adults.
Staff Sgt. Aaron Whitehouse, the plainclothes commander for Prince George RCMP, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and acknowledged the broader impact of the incident on the community and the accused individual and their family. Whitehouse urged parents, guardians, and educators to have conversations with young people about the dangers associated with using prescription drugs without medical supervision.
