Three individuals lost their lives in a crash involving a sedan and a transport truck on Thursday evening along Route 11 in northern New Brunswick. The incident occurred close to the Black Point area, which is part of the Heron Bay community encompassing Dalhousie.
According to authorities, the car’s 25-year-old driver and two passengers, aged 18 and 27, perished at the scene. The deceased individuals hailed from Moncton, Dalhousie, and Campbellton, although further details, such as their relationship, were not disclosed. The truck driver sustained injuries, was hospitalized, and later discharged.
RCMP Sgt. Rejean Richard from the Campbellton detachment mentioned that the police, Belledune Fire Department, and Ambulance New Brunswick promptly responded to the incident around 7 p.m. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, with initial reports suggesting that the car veered across the center line and collided head-on with the truck.
Richard noted that road conditions were slightly wet but not unusual at the time of the crash. The affected stretch of Route 11 between Exit 357 and Exit 375 in Benjamin River was shut down for 11 hours following the accident, as per New Brunswick RCMP. While RCMP continues its inquiries, the closed highway section has since been reopened.
Reflecting on the tragic incident, Richard expressed regret over the occurrence of fatal collisions year after year, emphasizing the desire for such events to be less frequent.
