“Thriving Market for Used EVs Signals Sustainable Shift”

In our weekly environmental newsletter, we delve into current trends and solutions driving us towards a more sustainable future. As I, Nicole Mortillaro, explored the idea of purchasing a pre-owned electric vehicle (EV), I discovered a thriving market with promising prospects.

When considering a used EV purchase, the key factors to ponder include battery life and driving range. While older EV models typically offered ranges between approximately 100 to 200 kilometers per charge, the newer models boast averages around 400 kilometers, with some high-end models reaching up to 800 kilometers. Experts suggest that range anxiety may be overestimated, as most people’s daily driving needs are well within the range of older EV models.

Concerns about battery longevity in used EVs are alleviated by advancements like active cooling systems in batteries manufactured since 2015, reducing degradation from heat damage and extending their lifespan significantly. It’s crucial to obtain a state of health report for the EV battery before purchase, with experts recommending avoiding units with battery health below 70%.

The used EV market is projected to witness substantial growth in the coming years, aligning with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Embracing EVs not only offers financial benefits but also contributes to a cleaner environment by reducing air pollution. As we navigate the shift towards sustainable transportation, the transition to EVs presents a viable solution for a greener future.
