Chet Hanks has drafted in his father, Hollywood icon Tom Hanks, to star in his latest music video – which spoofs the iconic film Forrest Gump. Chet, 34 – who is the son of Oscar winner Tom and 68-year-old Sleepless in Seattle actress Rita Wilson – delighted fans when he unveiled the music video for his new track, titled You Better Run.
The title itself appears to be a nod to 68-year-old Tom’s legendary film – which contained the iconic line: “Run, Forest, run!” The video for You Better Run shows Chet and his Something Out West bandmate recreating scenes from the 1994 film.
At one point, Tom joins his son in a scene which sees Chet dressed as Forest Gump, while Tom takes a seat beside him at a bus stop. The father and son smile and laugh together and embrace for a hug in scenes that fans have been thrilled to watch.
One wrote in the comments section of the song’s YouTube page: “Dope song , very well written. Love his dad and the nostalgia of it. I’m a fan.” While another typed: “Gotta love Chet goofing on his dad all through the video. Awesome.”
Chet is one half of Something Out West – the band he created alongside friend and fellow musician Drew Arthur. Revealing they had signed a record deal in February, the band announced at the time: “We’re thrilled to partner with Big Machine and Scott Borchetta.
“The support they’ve shown for ‘Leaving Hollywood’ and the rest of the music has been incredible. Drew and I have been making music together for a long time, and we feel really proud to have a home at Big Machine for this upcoming project.”
While the official bio for the band reveals: “Something Out West was born in California when bandmates Chet and Drew became roommates at a pivotal time — both embarking on a journey to sobriety that sparked a deep friendship and creative partnership.”
“Their move to Nashville refined their sound, blending distinctive vocals, timeless storytelling, and contemporary influences that honor the genre’s roots while pushing it forward.”
More recently, Chet has been reflective on social media, sharing thoughts about god and success with his fans. He said in a video in the run up to the release of his new song: “I’ve been wanting to share this for a long time, but I haven’t, because I don’t like coming across like I’m preaching to people, but I’m just going to share it.”
He continued: “Whatever you’re going through right now, whether it’s a really hard time, painful time, like great time in your life, just understand that it’s not real. Nothing that you can see with your eyes is real. The only things that are real are things you can feel in your spirit, like love, joy, peace, which ultimately is just one thing, and that’s God.
“There’s only one thing happening here, and that’s God existing and experiencing itself. There’s only one entity that exists as the source of everything else within it, and that is God. And that it’s possible to have direct experiential knowledge of God face to face. It’s called Gnosis, direct experiential knowledge without any drugs or hallucinogenics. Every person can experience it within themselves.”
Going on to explain the theory in more detail, Chet – who has battled drug addiction in the past – later concluded: “Ultimately, this life is a beautiful learning experience. And I just pray to God that all you guys can find peace and beauty and happiness and joy and love and just be able to send out as much that as possible to everyone you meet all the time, because that makes your ride so much better.”
