Victoria Mboko, a 19-year-old tennis player from Toronto, narrowly missed securing her first title of the 2026 season at the Adelaide International women’s tennis final. Mboko, seeded eighth, faced a tough opponent in third-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva, ultimately falling 6-3, 6-1. Despite her efforts, Mboko struggled with her serve, managing only two aces and three double faults while winning just 50% of her first-serve points. She did, however, break serve on her lone opportunity during the match.
In contrast, Andreeva performed strongly, recording one ace, one double fault, winning 73% of her first-serve points, and breaking serve on five out of 10 chances. Following her defeat in the final, Mboko is gearing up for her opening round match at the Australian Open against Australia’s Emerson Jones.
Mboko, seeded No. 17, is preparing to make her debut at the Australian Open, building on her successful 2025 season where she was recognized as the WTA Newcomer of the Year. She clinched the National Bank Open in Montreal and made significant strides in the rankings, climbing from No. 333 to No. 18 by the season’s end. The upcoming Australian Open match against Jones presents a new opportunity for Mboko to showcase her talent and progress in the competitive tennis circuit.
