Canada’s Victoria Mboko has secured her spot in the final of the Adelaide International women’s tennis event. The 19-year-old player hailing from Toronto emerged victorious in the semifinals by defeating Australia’s Kimberly Birrell with a score of 6-2, 6-1 on Friday. Mboko displayed a strong performance during the tune-up tournament for the upcoming Australian Open, delivering eight aces and three double faults. She capitalized on five out of seven break opportunities and impressively won 80% of her first-serve points. In contrast, Birrell struggled to secure any aces or break points throughout the match. Mboko, seeded eighth, is now poised to face off against the third-seeded Russian player, Mirra Andreeva, in the final showdown scheduled for Saturday. Mboko is gearing up for her debut appearance at the Australian Open later this month after a remarkable 2025 season on the WTA Tour. Her outstanding achievements, including clinching the title at the National Bank Open in Montreal and a significant rise in ranking from No. 333 to No. 18, earned her the prestigious title of WTA Newcomer of the Year.
