Environment Canada has issued a yellow alert for Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk due to high winds in the region, including Hamilton, Brantford, and Burlington. The yellow alert signifies the lowest level of warning from the weather agency, with colors escalating from yellow to orange to red as the risk intensifies.
The alert was issued early Friday morning specifically for communities along Lake Erie, where wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, potentially exceeding 100 km/h, are expected. These strong winds are forecasted to start in the morning and gradually ease by late afternoon or early evening.
In addition to the high winds, Environment Canada mentioned the arrival of showers and a risk of thunderstorms in the region, followed by a cold front passing through later in the day. This cold front may bring another round of powerful winds with gusts reaching 90 km/h or higher along the Lake Erie shore, posing a threat to roofs, fences, and trees. Property damage and potential injury from flying debris are also concerns.
Meanwhile, a special weather statement has been issued for Hamilton, Brantford, and Burlington, as well as most of southern Ontario, warning of thunderstorms in the morning and wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h.
