Police in St. John’s arrested a 41-year-old man for firearms-related charges following an incident in the city’s west end on Thursday. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary announced on Friday that officers were called to a residence on Barachois Street at approximately 10 a.m. NT on New Year’s Day in response to a report of a firearms offence.
Law enforcement officers, including the Tactics and Rescue Unit and the RCMP, secured the residence and apprehended the male occupant without any issues. The Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
During a search of the property, authorities discovered a firearm, brass knuckles, a stun gun, and soft body armor, which were confiscated as part of the inquiry. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The man faces eight charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and trafficking in weapons. He is scheduled to appear in court to address the charges.
