An individual from Ontario apprehended in a crackdown aimed at suspected associates of Canadian fugitive Ryan Wedding is seeking court protection for the identities of potential supervisors for his bail arrangement. Rolan Sokolovski, who holds dual Lithuanian-Canadian citizenship, is among several Canadians facing extradition to the U.S. as part of an FBI probe into Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder linked to an international drug trafficking network. Sokolovski is accused by U.S. authorities of money laundering for the criminal group and purchasing luxury items for Wedding. His legal counsel, Scott Fenton, contends that disclosing the identities of Sokolovski’s proposed sureties could jeopardize their safety.
On the other hand, Crown prosecutors argue that there is no evidence of threats to the sureties’ safety and that keeping them anonymous would withhold vital information from the public regarding the court’s decision on Sokolovki’s release. The Ontario Superior Court is set to make a ruling on this matter as Sokolovski’s bail hearing commences.
According to the U.S. indictment against Sokolovski, the 37-year-old is also known as a professional poker player, jeweler, and procurer. Allegations state that he managed the organization’s bookkeeping and laundered drug money through his jewelry business. Court documents additionally claim that Sokolovski created a valuable necklace as payment to an alleged hitman involved in aiding Wedding in the murder of a federal witness.
Wedding, who is reportedly evading capture in Mexico, is a prime target for the FBI due to his alleged involvement in drug-related crimes and murder conspiracies. In a related development, a Toronto-area lawyer, Deepak Paradkar, accused of playing a significant role in the criminal network, was granted bail under strict conditions, including continuous house arrest supervised by his wife and a relative. Paradkar is said to have provided advice to Wedding on criminal activities, introduced him to drug traffickers, and managed intelligence operations following drug seizures by law enforcement.
In a separate incident, the FBI seized an ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster in Miami last November, valued at $13 million, as part of the ongoing investigation into Wedding’s illicit activities. The luxury vehicle, purchased by Sokolovski, is part of the assets linked to the criminal network.
