“Olympic Ice Dance Champion Removed from NBC Commentator Role”

Olympic ice dance champion Gabriella Papadakis revealed that she was removed from her commentary position with NBC for the upcoming Winter Olympics due to a dispute with her former skating partner over content in her newly released book.

Speaking to sports daily L’Equipe, the retired French skater explained that the decision was made after her ex-partner, Guillaume Cizeron, publicly challenged the accuracy of details in her book, “So as Not to Disappear.” Cizeron took legal action on Tuesday to address what he called “defamatory statements” related to him.

Papadakis expressed her disappointment with NBC’s decision, sharing that she had just started her career as a commentator and felt unjustly treated. She described the situation as challenging, especially considering her retirement in December 2024.

In her book, Papadakis recounted the struggles in her relationship with Cizeron, noting feelings of imbalance and fear of being alone with him. She described him as controlling and demanding, expressing a sense of being under his influence at times.

Regarding their successful partnership, which included Olympic gold and silver medals, multiple world championships, and European titles, Papadakis mentioned that difficulties arose when she sought equality in their dynamic.

Cizeron responded to the allegations, stating his disagreement with the accusations and expressing confusion about the timing of the book’s release before the Milan Cortina Winter Games. He emphasized his respect for Papadakis and highlighted their shared successes and support during their collaboration.

Papadakis clarified that the book’s publication date was set before Cizeron’s announcement of returning to competition with Laurence Fournier Beaudry. Fournier Beaudry, who transitioned to compete for France, partnered with Cizeron for the upcoming Olympics, where they are expected to be strong contenders.
