The popular educational series, The Magic School Bus, is set to make its big-screen debut. Legendary Entertainment and Scholastic Entertainment have announced a collaboration to produce a live-action film adaptation of the beloved children’s book series.
Elizabeth Banks will play the role of the quirky and adventurous Ms. Frizzle in the upcoming movie. Alongside Banks, Rob Letterman, known for Detective Pikachu, will direct and write the film’s treatment.
Originally created by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen, The Magic School Bus series follows the exciting adventures of Ms. Frizzle and her students aboard a magical school bus. The series, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, has sold over 90 million books worldwide.
The franchise’s popularity has soared since its debut in 1986, expanding into television and digital platforms. Notably, the animated series aired on PBS from 1994 to 1997, achieving high ratings globally. Netflix also attempted a reboot titled The Magic School Bus Rides Again, featuring Lily Tomlin and Kate McKinnon.
Elizabeth Banks was previously linked to The Magic School Bus movie back in 2020, and the project has now found its home with Legendary Entertainment after the rights transitioned from Universal Pictures. This exciting announcement marks a new chapter for The Magic School Bus on the silver screen.
