Marvel Studios made an exciting announcement during its presentation at Comic-Con International, revealing that David Jonsson will be the new Black Panther, portraying the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. Additionally, it was disclosed that Ryan Gosling is set to play Ghost Rider in films scheduled for release in 2028.
At the event, Jonsson appeared on stage with acclaimed Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler, accompanied by Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. The upcoming film, Black Panther III, is slated for release on December 15, 2028.
Expressing gratitude towards the cast and crew, the 32-year-old actor, known for his roles in Industry, The Long Walk, and Alien: Romulus, stated, “I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking.”
Following Boseman’s passing in 2020, the revelation in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that T’Challa had a son sparked speculation among fans about who would assume the Black Panther mantle. Notable contenders included Damson Idris and Letitia Wright.
The original 2018 Black Panther film achieved significant milestones by becoming the first superhero movie to receive a best picture Oscar nomination and grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide, while its sequel amassed $850 million in earnings.
In another major announcement, Ryan Gosling is set to reunite with director Shawn Levy, known for Star Wars: Starfighter, for the film Ghost Rider. Gosling expressed his excitement about portraying the character, revealing his long-standing desire to take on the role.
Furthermore, Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige revealed plans to re-release the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame with additional footage linking it to the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, scheduled for release on December 18. The Doomsday trailer showcased ties between characters, including Victor Von Doom portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., Reed Richards played by Pedro Pascal, and Sue Storm depicted by Vanessa Kirby.
The event also featured stars from Doomsday taking the stage, including Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Simu Liu, and several others.
Additionally, a surprise appearance by Ryan Reynolds in a grey Deadpool costume delighted fans. Reynolds engaged in humorous banter with fellow actors, adding to the excitement of the event.
