A judge has determined that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial with D4vd, accused in the murder and dismemberment of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The prosecution alleges that the victim threatened to expose their relationship, which could have jeopardized the indie-pop singer’s burgeoning career just before his debut album release.
During a recent preliminary hearing, Los Angeles Judge Charlaine Olmedo found probable cause to try D4vd on charges of murder, continuous sexual abuse of a minor under 14, and illegal mutilation of human remains. The court was presented with gruesome autopsy images, explicit details of abuse, and the final messages sent by the victim moments before her death.
This ruling marks a significant development in the ten-month investigation into D4vd, initiated after the discovery of the victim’s dismembered body in the singer’s Tesla trunk in the Hollywood Hills. D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Despite the defense arguing against the murder charge, the prosecution asserts that the evidence overwhelmingly supports all allegations.
Prosecutors are contemplating seeking the death penalty as the case involves aggravating circumstances, such as lying in wait and killing for financial gain. The judge ordered D4vd to remain in custody without bail. An arraignment is scheduled for August 31, with a potential trial within 60 days following.
According to prosecutors, the victim’s final hours were described in detail, recounting how she was allegedly stabbed to death upon arrival at D4vd’s residence. The prosecution presented evidence indicating a history of sexual abuse, as well as purchases made by D4vd for tools used in dismembering the victim’s body.
